I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the debut of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, which was 20 years ago today. Twenty years into this journey, we have commissioned and premiered over 20 new works in concerts across Southern California featuring 68 of the top studio musicians in Hollywood, built an award-winning “Music in the Schools” program serving over 4,000 elementary students each and every week, recorded an album with commissions from George Duke and Lee Ritenour along with Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” and each Monday night on KJazz 88.1 FM present a 2-hour radio show, Beyond Symphonic Jazz featuring interviews with today’s jazz legends.
Click here for a short slideshow looking back at some of SJO’s highlights through the years. Please know that none of this would have been possible without your steadfast support, for which I am truly most grateful.
Looking forward to the next 20,
Mitch
