The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra’s Music Advisory Board selected Patrick Gandy winner of the 3rd Annual ASCAP Foundation/Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Prize.
Gandy is a composer, pianist, conductor, orchestrator and musical director who has worked with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Dianne Reeves, to name a few. He has appeared in venues as diverse as Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center and The Kennedy Center, and he has scored five films and served as musical director or pianist for several touring companies of Broadway productions.
Gandy shared with us that it’s the individuals involved with this prize that make it so special.
“It’s not the Prize, it’s the people around the Prize. The ASCAP Foundation and the SJO care about the individual, the artist. They have given me a bottomless toolbox I can use any way I want, to deliver a composition I believe in.”
We look forward to premiering Gandy’s composition at the next Symphonic Jazz Orchestra community concert!
